New office for king of Vhavenda

Prof Charles Nwaila, said he was pleased to hear that Vhavenda King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, and his senior traditional leaders had united

THE director-general in the department of traditional affairs, Prof Charles Nwaila, said he was pleased to hear that Vhavenda King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, and his senior traditional leaders had united and he hoped this would bring better services to communities in the kingdom.

“Development takes place in the traditional communities and if traditional leaders are working hand in hand with the king, real development will take place.

“I am excited to witness the good working relationship of the Vhavenda king, his traditional leaders and municipalities within the Vhembe region,” Nwaila said.

Nwaila spoke at the official opening of Mphephu’s offices, situated in the government building in Thohoyandou, last Wednesday.

The six offices comprised the king’s office, chambers where he and his 28 senior traditional leaders would meet to discuss traditional and developmental issues and a tribal clerk’s office.

Nwaila said his visit to the Vhembe region was not only to officially open the offices, but also to witness the restoration of the dignity of traditional leadership.

Ramabulana said the offices would also be used for developmental issues affecting the communities.

“We urge our communities to make use of the facilities. Together we can do more.

“Some of the conflict regarding chieftainship will also be discussed in the offices,” Ramabulana said.
