City street turned into a taxi rank

Motorists who used to make use of parking spaces in Schoeman Street, between Grobler and Jorissen Street, say they are angry that the parking spaces, which have a 15 minute parking limit on them, have been "taken over" by taxis.

POLOKWANE – Motorists who used to make use of parking spaces in Schoeman Street, between Grobler and Jorissen Street, say they are angry that the parking spaces, which have a 15 minute parking limit on them, have been “taken over” by taxis.

They say this area is now used as an informal taxi rank and there is nowhere for the other motorists to park.

“I have to drop my wife off at work every morning and now I am forced to double park in the mornings as the taxis are using all the parking spaces,” Standley Davidson told Review.

Other motorists said they had reported the matter to the municipality but no solution had been forthcoming.

Municipal spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene said the municipality worked with the traffic department to resolve the parking issue.

She called upon all motorists and taxi drivers to make use of parking in the city as indicated and to adhere to the traffic laws.
