POLOKWANE – Noorderland High School’s athletes battled it out on the track and field during their inter-house athletics meet on Friday.
The aim of the event was to form a team that would represent the school in various athletics meetings such as friendly and inter-high challenges.
Learners were divided into three houses; Team Blue, Team Yellow and Team Red.
According to Deon Kruger, head of sport at the school, all the athletes showed commitment.
“We did quite well in last year’s athletics meetings and one of our learners even went to participate in the South African Schools Championships in the long and triple jump,” Kruger said.
He added that they wanted to form a solid team that would represent the school well and win medals. He planned to start preparing for the small schools inter-high meeting, that would take place on February 12.
The team that won the inter-house athletics on Friday received a trophy. There were also trophies for the junior Victor Ludorum and junior Victrix Ludorum, senior Victor Ludorum and senior Victrix Ludorum. The team with the best team spirit, Team Yellow, won a trophy too.
Team Yellow won the inter-house athletics meeting with 508 points, followed by Team Blue in second place with 485 points and Team Red took third place with 435 points.
