THE minister of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, (Coghsta), Pravin Gordhan and Makoma Makurupetje, MEC of Coghsta visited the Mogalakwena municipality on Wednesday due to the on-going struggle at the Mogalakwena municipality that has resulted in violent protests and poor service delivery since November last year.
“The purpose of this visit is to understand first hand what the situation at the Mogalakwena municipality is. I spoke to all the role players involved. Both Makurupetje and myself now have a more balanced view of what is going on at the municipality. Our aim is a very simple one we want his municipality to become as functional as it use to be. We want the municipal staff to start focusing on delivering and providing services to the residents of Mokopane.
I am confident in working with my colleague, Makurupetje that within the next two weeks we will reconcile the different views and encourage everybody to get to work. We will do whatever it takes to get everything in order and working again within the frame work of the law,” said Gordhan.
