POLOKWANE – Residents have been asked by the municipality to use electricity wisely by switching off appliances they do not use, however, in some municipal areas the lights are burning day and night.
There are five streets in Nirvana where the streetlights burn day and night, seven days a week.
On Monday at around 16:00, Review was able to confirm that the streetlights in The Crescent and Orient Drive, Ganges and Himalaya Avenue, and Sri Lanka Street were indeed on.
Residents confirmed that the lights stayed on throughout the day and that this had been going on for three months.
According to some residents, the municipality was aware of the problem, as they had reported the matter. However, they said, nothing was being done to fix the problem.
“I have already reported the matter 15 times and I know my neighbours and other people in our street have done the same. The municipality keeps on saying it will send someone, but no one ever comes.
“I have been monitoring for how long the problem has been going on in The Crescent Drive and Sri Lanka Street.
“In The Crescent Drive, it has been eight weeks since we first reported it and in Sri Lanka Street, it has been three months. The other streets have been a problem for a couple of weeks now,” one resident who did not wish to be identified, said. By the time of going to print, the municipality had not commented on the matter.
