MOKOPANE – THE Democratic Alliance in Mogalakwena welcomes the recent development in the withdrawal of Tlhalefi Mashamaite in the ongoing saga of the Municipality, says Thapelo Pooe, DA councillor in a media statement.
The DA now calls for the further suspension of the rest of the councillors implicated in the KPMG forensic audit report. “The recall of mayor Mashamaite is a step in the right direction towards good governance and accountability, but the problems of Mogalakwena local municipality cannot be solved without removing the puppet master as well. We also call on Minister Pravin Gordhan and MEC of Coghsta, Makoma Makhurupetje to ensure that the incumbent will be a well capable and qualified individual and not just another deployee as this will be Mogalakwena’s fifth mayor in almost five years.”
Pooe says the municipality is in disarray and the DA has long called for accountability and stability as the residents are the ones who suffer without basic services. “This while it was clear from the start that the ANC infighting in the municipality has brought the Mogalakwena municipality to a standstill, Minister Pravin Gordhan cannot postpone implementation of a solution furthermore as he committed to a 48 hour resolution plan in Parliament on 13 February 2015, that has passed already. Minister it is time that you keep by your word!”
As the 2016 Local Government Elections are nearing, the time has arrived for the voters of Mogalakwena to keep their government accountable by voting this incapable and greedy ANC out and the DA that has a clean track record of governance in as to serve the people and not abuse or steal their money to enrich themselves, says Pooe.
At print, the ANC nor the municipality officials could confirm to Bosveld that Mashamaite had stepped down from the throne.
