Sephumas donate laptops to school

THE Thabo Judith Sephuma Foundation has narrowed the digital divide between rural and urban schools with a donation of 20 laptops to Khaiso High School in Seshego on Friday.

SESHEGO – THE Thabo Judith Sephuma Foundation has narrowed the digital divide between rural and urban schools with a donation of 20 laptops to Khaiso High School in Seshego on Friday.

The laptops were donated in partnership with HP South Africa, Pinnacle, Neotel and Saab Grintek.

Thabo Sephuma said they also donated 20 computers and four printers to Madabani Primary School outside Makhado last Thursday.

“I was raised in Madabani village, while Judith grew up in Seshego, so we want to say thank you to the people who raised us,” he said.

“The Madabani com-munity should share their IT knowledge with Muraleni Primary School and Swobani Secondary School.

“The computers will benefit over 1 000 learners from these schools and will be used to provide basic IT training to empower people and create sustainable development interventions through the transfer of technology, education and skills in an effort to bridge the digital divide,” said Sephuma.

Daniel Magwala, principal of Madabani Primary School, said he was thankful for the donation as learners would be well equipped with IT knowledge.

Acting MEC for education, Jerry Ndou, said South Africa was succeeding with the help of public and private partnerships.

“It is up to the community to protect what belongs to them. Make use of this technology and protect it,” said Ndou.

Venn Cannon of Pinnacle said the company ensured learners learned computer skills at a young age.

He said the company put aside R6 million for this project. “This is ploughing back to the community because school children are future customers,” said Cannon.

Sammy Morokane (17), a gr. 11 learner at Khaiso High School, said he was happy that learners would become computer literate when they were still in high school. “The only thing we can do is to study hard in order to achieve good results at the end of the year,” said Morokane.
