Public pool: stay away

With the Polokwane municipal swimming pool being closed for long periods, its parking area has become a spot for public drinking and public indecency.

POLOKWANE- With the Polokwane municipal swimming pool being closed for long periods, its parking area has become a spot for public drinking and public indecency.

Residents in the area say the spot attracts partygoers and those looking for a secluded spot to have sex.

Local resident George Nkomo told Review he had made several phone calls to the police to report incidents, but to no avail as those transgressing the law simply return after a police patrol has been conducted.

Polokwane police spokesperson Capt Ntobeng Phala confirmed that people using the play park next to the swimming pool have been robbed in recent weeks.

In one incident, a woman’s cell phone was stolen but a passing police officer came to her rescue and the thief was caught.

The police are now regarding the area around the swimming pool as they are focusing on the Flora Park dam.

“We have increased patrols and urge residents to avoid the area over weekends and in the evenings,” Phala said.

He said the matter will be looked into at a meeting.
