LIMPOPO – WHEN Mary-Jane Mokatse (56) from Makgofe village got retrenched last year, she set out to continue making a living with the start of her business.
Mokatse’s business offers many services and products such as freshly baked scones and vetkoeks and photo copying services.
“I am proud to have created jobs for two people from the village and my wish is to create more jobs for more people. I worked as a marketing manager before I was retrenched last year and I told myself I shouldn’t depend on someone if I can still use my hands,” says Mokatse.
She says she started the business with money she saved while she was still employed.
She adds that she dreams of owning a bakery franchise in Limpopo so she can create more jobs for the people of Makgofe.
“I am happy the community supports my business. I appreciate all their support. All I want is to be a good example to the women of Makgofe,” she says.
She encourages women to do something for themselves.
“You can use your hands to create anything that will put food on the table.”
