Former Limpopo Deputy Provincial Police Commissioner Berning Ntlemeza is allegedly being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) apparently for defeating the ends of justice.
It is reported that while Ntlemeza was still Deputy Commissioner he allegedly protected a captain in the Police service who was accused of abusing state resources. The captain has since been suspended from the service.
Yesterday (Wednesday) Police Ministry Spokesperson Musa Zondi said as far as he knew Ntlemeza has not been suspended pending the investigation.
Ipid Spokesperson Moses Dlamini recalled the case of the captain but could not provide further details on exactly what led to the investigation against Ntlemeza.
“At this stage I can only confirm that there is an ongoing investigation and that Ntlemeza is being probed for defeating the ends of justice,” Dlamini said.
Ntlemeza was called upon by Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko to act as Head of Hawks in December after the suspension of former Hawks Head Anwa Dramat.
