Small bus operators to come together

THE South African National Small Bus Operators Council (SANSBOC) will host a two-day conference at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort on Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28.

LIMPOPO – THE South African National Small Bus Operators Council (SANSBOC) will host a two-day conference at Protea Hotel Ranch Resort on Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28.

The conference aims to launch the SANSBOC Limpopo branch and address some of the issues faced by bus operators in the industry. Addressing the media, Olivia Maponya, SANSBOC Limpopo provincial treasurer, says: “our members may have struggled to deal with these challenges individually, but as a group, we’re in a better position to address them”.

Maponya says the council will also look at improving skills development training and ensuring drivers are properly trained.

“We’re also looking at total economic empowerment. Many service providers and suppliers relevant to the industry will participate as exhibitors. Stalls will be set up for them to advertise their products and services,” she says.

“We want to do away with fragmented representative bodies in the bus transportation industry and be able to speak to government with one voice,” adds SANSBOC Limpopo chairperson, Johannes Ragimane.

Ragimane further says they are expecting all stakeholders, such as bus operators, SANSBOC national office representatives and representatives from all nine provinces, members from all five districts, as well as local municipalities and all bus operators affiliated to SANSBOC to attend the conference.
