DA: ‘Recall is nothing but political means to comfort the people’

LIMPOPO – According to a press release by the DA Limpopo provincial leader Jacques Smalle the Mogalakwena Mayor, Thlalifi Mashamaite, has brought the municipality to its knees. Mogalakwena communities have been subjected to a total shut down under him.

A top South Africa forensic firm investigation found Mashamaite to be unfit to hold office. “Mashamaite has been an illegitimate mayor, since the ANC re-installed him,” Smalle said.

Mashamaite was ordered by the court to vacate his office, yet late last year Mashamaite and the ANC deployed the SAPS, preventing his removal from office.

Late last year DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, visited Mogalakwena and was blocked from entering the municipal building by armed police who rolled out triple-layer barbed wire to block his path.

According to Smalle the recall is nothing but cheap political means to comfort the people of Mogalakwena.

“There is no rational reason why the ANC allowed Mashamaite to return to the mayoral office, after being constitutionally removed by a council resolution,” Smalle added.

Should processes not be implemented against Mashamaite, the DA will lay criminal charges against the municipal officials who protect him.
