Muni to reinstate manager

THE Greater Tzaneen Municipal Council has been ordered by the supreme court of appeal to reinstate Andre le Grange in his position as manager expenditure.

TZANEEN – THE Greater Tzaneen Municipal Council has been ordered by the supreme court of appeal to reinstate Andre le Grange in his position as manager expenditure which he occupied before he was appointed as the municipality’s chief financial officer about eight years ago.

Le Grange’s contract as chief financial officer came to an end in June 2012 after which Norah Lion was appointed in this position.

However, Le Grange was supposed to have been reinstated in the position of manager, expenditure, but the council decided not to do so. Le Grange took the matter to court.

This followed the court decision on 18 March this year, but the municipality took time to reinstate him because the position of manager, expenditure was filled.

According to Greater Tzaneen council speaker, Cassius Machimana, they have therefor taken a decision to create a new position for Le Grange as store manager and fleet manager which he will commence in due course.

He said the main purpose of the position is to manage the store’s services to council, manage and coordinate the fleet.

Machimana said the council approved the new position subject to the legal requirements of the job evaluation process equivalent to all other positions in the organisation structures as stated in Section 66 (1) (d) of the Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000.

The decision to reinstate Le Grange was taken during a council meeting held in Tzaneen last Thursday.

Opposition political parties welcomed the decision because the matter has been going on for a long time.
