Polokwane Show and Music Festival a thrill for all

Residents of Polokwane and other parts of the province made their way to the annual Polokwane Show and Music Festival held at the Polokwane Showground last Wednesday to Saturday.
Described as the biggest fun show and music festival in the province, the annual event provided for old and young. As is custom, the first day was reserved for learners and the venue was a hive of activity with all forms of public transport delivering learners from Capricorn district and beyond from early on. The learners not only enjoyed the fun activities but also attended educational shows presented by various government departments.
From Thursday families and indi-viduals flocked through the gates with only one thing in mind, to enjoy themselves thoroughly. And there was no shortage of opportunity. The family fun section with its clowns and carnival performers brought excitement to children and grownups. The food kiosks featured longstanding favourites eagerly sought out by regular show goers and a few new stalls that made for a good variety.
Visitors were spoiled for choice at the exhibition stalls which displayed wares and services not normally found in stores, interesting inventions, exhibits by vehicle dealerships, home and lifestyle products including outdoor and camping equipment as well as products from the tourism, arts and culture industries.
The line-up of artists and personalities included popular South African artists Theuns Jordaan, Dozi, Karen Ziod, Bok van Blerk, Lance James, Piet Pompies, David Fourie and Dewald Wasserfall as well as angling expert Petri de Wet
Another highlight was the crowning of the show queen in different categories on Saturday. Nineteen-year-old Zodwa Mdingi from Man-kweng was crowned Miss Polokwane Show Queen 2015. Currently a BSc student at the University of Free State, Mdingi said she hoped to inspire other would-be models through the pageant.
The agricultural show that runs concurrently also started on Wednesday with a Living Land Farmers Day and as from Thursday presented livestock shows, a boerbok auction and Brahman parade.
Event Organiser, Lelané van der Merwe said they were happy with the turnout and how everything came together to ensure a successful show. “We had the best musical line up ever. We want to thank everyone who came to the show for their support and we will see them next year,” Van der Merwe said.
