LIMPOPO – LESETJA Rammala (32), who was arrested by the police in Mankweng recently, is now a free man after he was granted R1 000 bail in the Mankweng magistrate’s court for stealing three laptops and a cell phone.

Rammala was caught red handed by one of his victims at the students’ residence at the University of Limpopo’s Turfloop campus.

The victim, who remains anonymous, said she left her room unlocked when she went to the bathroom during which Rammala sneaked into her room and committed the crime.

On her way back to the room, she saw Rammala coming out of her room carrying laptops trying to hide his face with his jacket. She went on to say that she became suspicious because the music she left playing on her laptop was now quiet and that was when she started screaming for help.

When other students heard the screams, they came out to help and gave chase along with the campus security. They managed to catch the suspect who was still in possession of the stolen items, he even showed them where he stole them.

Rammala appeared in the local magstrate’s court on charges of housebreaking and theft, as well as possession of suspected stolen property.

“We would like to encourage neighbourhood watch and appreciate the good work of the students and the campus security,” said Const Matimba Maluleke, spokesperson for the Mankweng police.
