LIMPOPO – Police were searching for one awaiting trial prisoner who escaped in a police van after appearing in court in Malamulele, Limpopo said on Saturday.
Five prisoners had initially escaped on Tuesday after appearing in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court. The prisoners were about to be transported to police holding cells when they overpowered two officers.
”We are still looking for one remaining prisoner. One handed himself in on Tuesday night, while three were captured on Thursday.
Three of them appeared in court on Friday on charges of escaping from lawful custody,” said spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto.
She added that the prisoner on the run was on trial for various charges of armed robbery.
