Electronic media, Review, a favourite read

With electronic media becoming a more predominant source of news, Review asked a few residents in the city whether they preferred to read about the news the old fashioned way or if they preferred reading news on electronic devices such as computers, cellphones or tablets.

POLOKWANE – With electronic media becoming a more predominant source of news, Review asked a few residents in the city whether they preferred to read about the news the old fashioned way or if they preferred reading news on electronic devices such as computers, cellphones or tablets.

Daphney Mello says she prefers reading news on her cellphone.

“My cell phone is always with me, so if I want to source news I simply go on my cellphone, open what I want to read about, and it is there. Say for instance you want to read news but there is no newspapers in the area you are situated, then you can easily source it from devices like a cell phone. I am also a very keen reader of the Review newspaper,” says Mello.

Aubrey Ntshong says he prefer reading news from his tablet.

“Because I seek employment opportunities, the internet proves to be more resourceful than the traditional printed version. I always read the Review newspaper and I think it is a very nice paper, very up to date,” says Ntshong.

Agnes Kemp says she is still a bit old school and she prefers the traditional way by reading the actual printed newspaper.

“Not everyone is privileged enough to have access to internet or to own a tablet. In general I prefer to buy newspapers, the paper never goes to waste as it gets re-used around the house. I read the local newspapers weekly and I like to read Review’s news,” says Kemp.

Bethuel Moloto is one of the younger residents in the city who also prefers to read the original version of the paper rather than on the internet.

“It is just that for me it is easier to get a hold of, and I like to read news when I have time, like when I am not working. The sports section is one of my favourite parts as well as reading news about the suburb I live in, Bendor, then I can see what’s news in my area. I enjoy reading Review because the stories are well written and the information content is also very good,” says Moloto.

Maritza Fichardt is one of many residents who are moving with the times and she follows Review as well as other news sources online.

“I have Review online on my tablet as well as on my Facebook timeline. This way news is always at my fingertips. As soon as I hear about an event or incident, I immediately go online to source it. What I like about reading news online is that I don’t have to wait for the actual newspaper to be available on the street, I can read it then and there. Online news is more up to date and fresher in my opinion. The Review website is very user friendly, especially their load shedding schedules,” says Fichardt.
