Filling station robbers apply for bail

FOUR of the six suspects in connection with a series of filling station robberies on April 20 in Mokopane, Polokwane and Jane Furse appeared on Monday before the Mokopane magistrate's court.

LIMPOPO – FOUR of the six suspects in connection with a series of filling station robberies on April 20 in Mokopane, Polokwane and Jane Furse appeared on Monday before the Mokopane magistrate’s court.

In the early hours of April 20, four filling stations were attacked in a series of incidents that started at Mokopane to Polokwane (two filling stations) and ultimately at Jane Furse.

Safes in all the filling stations were blasted and nabbed of cash.

The Engen garage on the corner of Dudu Madisha and Nelson Mandela Street was the first target, the cashiers were held by gun point.

A reaction officer of the security company, Suricat rushed to the scene after the panic button was activated. On arrival shots were fired and the vehicle of the Suricat officer was hit 22 times, fortunately the officer were not shot and only sustained minor injuries.

“Four of the suspects were arrested on April 22 and another arrest was made shortly after, only one suspect is still on the run, but we are hot on his trail,” said Col William Ramogobedi from Polokwane.

One of the suspects still need to be charged for the robbery in Mokopane, he has so far been charged for the robbery in Jane Furse, said a reliable source who would like to stay anonymous.

The suspects has been arrested for business robbery and their bail hearing on Monday has been postponed to August 3, for further investigation while the suspects remain in custody.
