MOKOPANE- MALESELA Parks Sebatjane, mayor of Mogalakwena Municipality, and Phophi Ramathuba, Limpopo MEC of health, introduced eight new health professionals last Thursday at the Thabaleshoba Health Centre in Rebone.
Ramathuba briefly addressed members of the community by saying: “We were aware of the shortage of health professionals in this centre and on July 3, during the EXCO Imbizo we made a promise that in three months this matter will be attended to. Indeed here we are today introducing a doctor, radiographer, pharmacist, pharmacist assistant, oral hygienist, dietitian and two dentists as part of the Thabaleshob family.”
She emphasized that the health professionals should interact with patients and community members to get an understanding of the common diseases in the area.
She further condemned the abuse of child support grants by mothers and advised the community members to report this matter urgently.
Four women from Thabaleshoba village volunteered to plant vegetables for the centre and Ramathuba said: “Myself and mayor Sebatjane will recommend that the management of Thabaleshoba Health Centre, George Masebe Hospital, Mokopane Hospital and Voortrekker Hospital respectively assist these women to form a corporation so that they can supply the above mentioned hospitals with fresh vegetables.”
Mayor Sebatjane advised the community members to take care of and respect the facility and to refrain from damaging government facilities during protests, as it results in the delay of service delivery.
Because instead of providing the community with a library, they will have to repair the damage.
One patient, Jermina Tlhako (58) said: “We want to thank Ramathuba, mayor Sebatjane and the ANC leadership for finally helping us with the assistance of these health professionals.
“This will indeed assist us a lot, as we were travelling long distances to get medical attention. Some of us would travel to Mokopane -, Voortrekker – or George Masebe Hospital respectively which is over 100 km and we spent a lot of money on travel costs and at times we had to hike due to the fact that no taxi’s were available. It is wonderful to know that now they are only a few feet away.”
