LIMPOPO – LIMPOPO is not being left behind with the rapid growth and development of the South African movie industry.

The local-based production house, Maxisky Media, has just wrapped up its latest movie, titled Tears of Love.

Maxisky Media started in 2012, and was formerly known as Choma Productions. The company specialises in film producing and editing.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Eliyah Papole better known as Kiasto, said they started the production house because there was a lack of filmmakers in the province while there is huge untapped talent just waiting to be discovered.

“There is a huge gap for filmmakers and production companies in Limpopo, so we decided to close in,” he explained.

With South African movies such as Tsotsi and Jerusalema receiving worldwide recognition and awards, there is currently a positive vibe among those involved in the performing arts, Kiasto said.

The company’s new movie, Tears of Love, is a joint venture between Maxisky Media and 5th Plane Production. It is an independent feature film that follows the life of a young married couple, Lucy and Desmond. The film’s lead actor, Nsuku Baloyi, said it was exciting to shooting this film but sometimes found it hard to hold back her tears.

“Sometimes I became very emotional because in the film, Lucy has cancer and as someone who lost her mother and aunt to the disease, it was hard at times not to cry. I felt my loss very strongly at times, but had to focus, pull myself together and do my job,” she explained.

Tsimishi Mojela, who was part of the supporting cast, said he had no difficulties with the script. “I have acting experience so this was easy for me. I had no problems getting the job done.”

Asked about the company’s future plans, the Maxisky Media team said it planned to take its movie to the big screen. “Our ultimate goal is to have the movie showing in cinemas all around the country. This was our plan from the beginning,” Zamane Mokoena, part of the team, adds.

According to Kiasto the movie will be showcased on DStv channels Mzanzi Magic and Mzazi Wethu.

In the meanwhile, the company is already working on two more movies, Bad Friends and Dikeledi.
