SOS and police officers fight crime together
Reaction-officers of SOS invited Bosveld to accompany them on Tuesday afternoon when they took to the streets of Mokopane with the aim to rid the town of drug-users/abusers and suspects pirating DVD’s.
MOKOPANE – SPECIAL Operation Solutions (SOS) in cooperation with the police on Tuesday afternoon arrested two suspects for the possession of drugs and one for pirating DVD’s.
Reaction-officers of SOS invited Bosveld to accompany them on Tuesday afternoon when they took to the streets of Mokopane with the aim to rid the town of drug-users/abusers and suspects pirating DVD’s.
“We have to make it clear to the community that crime is not welcome in our town. SOS, in cooperation with the police, try to catch these criminals in the act when they least expect it and by doing this we send out a clear message that we are hot on their trial,” Martin van Eck, senior reaction-officer of SOS, told Bosveld.
Van Eck recognised the first suspect that has fallen victim to the highly addictive and destructive street drug called nyaope, also known as wunga, within the first 15 minutes.
When he asked the suspect to pull up his sleeves, the trace-marks of the needle was clearly seen on his skin, but no drugs were found on him and van Eck gave him a stern warning.
According to an article by health24, “nyaope is a cocktail of illegal drugs, both heroin and weed which are the main narcotic ingredients of nyaope, are listed as undesirable dependence-producing substances in the Drugs Act.
“While it is not always clear what else nyaope consists of, and the ingredients vary from place to place, some of the alleged ingredients are a cocktail of anti-retroviral drugs, milk powder, rat poison, bicarbonate of soda and pool cleaner,” read the article.
“The use or possession of undesirable dependence-producing substances is punishable with a fine the court may deem fit, or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 15 years, or both a fine and imprisonment,” stated one of the police members.
A man in his early thirties was arrested for pirating DVD’s and a second suspect was caught in the act of smoking an illegal substance and was arrested for drug possession.
The third suspect tried to run away when he saw the reaction-officers approaching, but they caught up to him. They found nyaope in his possession.
Residents of the community cheered when SOS arrested the suspect and they all said that they are very grateful that these criminals are taken off the streets.
“I am a mother of three and I am relieved every time one of these alleged drug-dealers are arrested, because it is one less criminal I need to worry about at night,” a concerned mother, who would like to stay anonymous, told Bosveld.
The three suspects were taken to the Mokopane police station by members of the police to submit an official complaint and they will soon appear before the Mokopane magistrate’s court.
“We are truly grateful for the help of SOS in assisting us with catching these criminals, it is our goal to have a safe and drug free community.
“I am appealing to anyone that can assists us with information regarding drug-dealing or anyone abusing drugs to inform you nearest police station.
“Drugs are the root to evil and it will eventually destroy your life, don’t do or sell drugs,” said Patrick Makhubele, Mokopane police station commander.
