WOMENS MONTH: “Only life lived in the service of others is a life worth living” Makgabo Senoamadi
“Only life lived in the service of others is a life worth living.” These words motivate me to keep on serving others, said the iconic Makgabo Senoamadi.
MOKOPANE – “Only life lived in the service of others is a life worth living.” These words motivate me to keep on serving others, said the iconic Makgabo Senoamadi, mother of two and manager at Folang Medical centre, Folang Plant and Tool hire and project manager at Folang Trust, on Friday afternoon in her beautiful house that emphasises her dynamic and full- of- life personality.
How would you define womanhood?
For me womanhood is defined as being able to juggle everything simultaneously and survive. Women are beings that are able to sustain themselves and others.
Managing two companies and coordinating and overseeing projects run by the Folang trust take a lot of determination, how do you do it all?
My husband, Dr Putswana, is my support basis – he always knows when and how to encourage and support me, he empowers me and re-fuels my energy.
Your marriage is very important to you, what is the best ingredient for a happy relationship?
Communication: my husband and I share the same vision about everything.
Is there someone specific you look up to?
There are so many women I look up to on so many levels: locally, nationally and internationally, but if I have to choose one it would be Basetsana Kumalo, Miss South Africa 1994, a television personality and mother of two. She is a great example of a woman juggling it all and making it look like a piece of pie. I do not know how she does it.
What is your goal in life?
To always be sustainable, to live within my means and within my limits.
As a mother of two, what is the best part of being a mother?
To contribute to their lives, and to be able to still control them, by giving them advice on what they should and shouldn’t do.
What is the most pleasant aspect of being a woman?
To be able to passionately share my experiences with others. The best gift is the gift of giving! As women we are able to do anything – the sky is the limit!
What is your hope for women of the future?
We will never be equal, there will always be gardeners, secretaries and CEOs, but we have to learn to be humble and respect each other. Every person, whether a gardener or the president of a company, plays a vital role in our society. My hope is that we will learn to treat everyone with the respect and dignity they deserve.
What is your secret to your success? I have so much support – from family and friends to colleagues, they keep me on my toes.
What is your advice to women?
Live life the way you want to live it. Do not live to impress others as you will never be able to impress everyone. Follow your intuition, not your heart!
