Young Seshego trio leads the fashion pack
It is often true that people in dire need can come up with brightest ideas on how to improve their situation
POLOKWANE – It is often true that people in dire need can come up with brightest ideas on how to improve their situation.
This is the case for three local men from Seshego zone 1 who refuse to sit around and complain about unemployment.
Ronny Shilajoe (27), Michael Kganyago (26) and George Makama (25) took action to ensure they will never go to bed hungry.
They are the founders of R G Designs, which specialises in everything to do with clothes, including alterations and designs.
According to Shilajoe, who leads the pack at R G Designs, they started their business in January this year.
“We make designs from scratch. We always had a passion for clothes, but never thought we would enter the design industry until we got inspired and hooked to the idea by discovering the international London-based designer house, Loluesq.
“His style is unique and brings a new touch and new version to anything. He is always up to standard. Locally, we are inspired by designers, Thula Sindi and David Tlale,” adds Shilajoe.
He says their aim is to motivate young people to pursue their passion for fashion. “We believe that self-employment is the answer to the high unemployment rate in the country. We believe you cannot fold your hands when you have the use of all your body parts. You have to stop complaining about unemployment and do something. We are proud to provide for ourselves out of a shared passion. It is a joy to design what we love,” explains Shilajoe.
He says the business is booming. “We have learnt it’s important to work as a group because each member brings different ideas to be combined for a positive contribution. The biggest challenge so far is increasing orders that can make it difficult to reach deadlines.
“Our long-term goals include a bigger space and more customers. This will also result in us being able to provide employment for young aspiring designers in Polokwane. We want to lead in developing Polokwane into a fashion hub, which excels in design.”
The trio is proud to have dressed local artist, Black Queen for her performance during the Roll out VIP early this year.
