Beauty queen keeps rural women close to her heart

Mrs South Africa 2015 finalist, Mampa Sekoba-Diakanya, is ready to help change the mindsets of women living in the rural areas of South Africa

POLOKWANE – Mrs South Africa 2015 finalist, Mampa Sekoba-Diakanya, is ready to help change the mindsets of women living in the rural areas of South Africa.

Sekoba-Diakanyo was born and raised in Eusauringa village, Bochum, and completed her matric in 1999.

In 2001 she furthered her studies at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and INTEC College where she obtained a diploma in eco-tourism management and a certificate in events management.

She was selected as one of the top 25 finalists for the Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa pageant.

“The pageant is a empowerment movement for women, focussed on empowering and uplifting married, sophisticated, beautiful, real women who are ambitious and successful in their own right.

“They are business-minded, feminine, and proud wives and mothers,” she adds.

“My goal when I entered the Mrs South Africa pageant was to gain recognition as a young black woman with an aspiration for change.

“With this opportunity, I want to use the given platform to inject a mindset of change within South Africa’s rural areas by empowering and educating men, women and children who have the opportunity of shaping our future.

“As a South African from a rural background myself, I know what it feels like to grow up having nothing, without any form of inspirational information or empowerment from the people around you.”

Sekoba-Diakanyo cur-rently works as an office manager at the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs within the Chief Directorate for Community Development, Public Participation and Stakeholder Liaison.
