LIMPOPO – During his appearance in the Thohoyandou Magistrat’s court on Monday, Ndivhuwo Ntsieni (25), loudly voiced his complaints about the system.

“It seems this court doesn’t know its work well – why are they postponing my case without trial? It is long overdue and I have been in custody without trial,” complained Ntseni.

Ntsieni stands accused of murdering five women: Tshililo Ndou (9), Zwivhuya Mashau (8), Brenda Ndovhe (45), a former cleaner whose company was contracted by Univen, and a former Univen third-year nursing science student, Shudufhadzani Thagisa.

He also stands accused on various counts which include attempted murder, rape, attempted rape, robbery and kidnapping charges.

His alleged reign of terror started in March 2014 and continued for five months at Univen and surrounding areas. During his arrest, Ntsieni, a final year B.Sc student, was found in possession of a Univen student card and cellphone.

“It is quite surprising that my client’s matter was not attended to since May this year. We learned that the docket has not yet reached the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). It is totally unfair for the court to just sit with the docket of my client without going anywhere, how long are we going to wait?” asked the legal representative for Ntsieni, Norman Ndou.

State Prosecutor, Mashudu Nekhumbe, who postponed the case to 29 September argued that there were some outstanding issues which needed to be verified before the matter can be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution.

“Remember, Ntsieni stands accused of committing serious crimes and his case also has public interest as relatives need to know more,” explained Nekhumbe.
