Undercover police caught robbers in the act of committing armed robbery last Friday
POLOKWANE – Undercover police caught robbers in the act of committing armed robbery last Friday.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, said acting on information received, the police arranged for some undercover police officers at a filling station.
“Six men driving in two vehicles approached the filling station. Four of the six men were apprehended as they alighted from their vehicles with weapons in their hands with the intent to rob the filling station,” Phala explained.
Two of the men managed to escape.
Phala said the four men were identified as Zimbabwean nationals and appeared before the Polokwane magistrate’s court on charges of attempted armed robbery on Monday. The case was postponed to later this month for a formal bail application and the men remain in custody.
Phala said the men, while in custody, confessed they were on their way to commit a farm attack in the Phalaborwa area in the coming week.
Employees of the filling station said they were so impressed with the way the police stopped the robbery and it gives them hope that the city police are on top of crime in the city.
