LIMPOPO – Poet and musician, Leon Mogashoa (34), is looking forward to rock the stage with his performance at the Chuene Resort near Chuenespoort later this month.
Mogashoa, better known as Mogale wa Bagale, was born in Ga-Mogashoa in Sekhukhune. He started being a hip hop rapper during his matric year and he soon realised he could do well in the music industry.
He studied for a national diploma in marketing management at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
“In 1992 at the age of 12 years, I already started to recite poems and later realised I also had musical talent,” he reveals.
In 2000 he converted the poems he wrote into songs.
“I started to do freestyle performances with beats from other artists. My talent was exposed at the time I was still studying at TUT, by other hip hop artists, and we finally came together to form a group called Black Ink.”
In 2004 after furthering his studies, he started to work in Lebowakgomo at the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court as a clerk and keep on recording his music part time.
“I recorded my first album produced by Macell Records and Kay Beats Foundation in 2005, titled Mogale Wa Bagale. The album was released and distributed this year in July by Madenya Studios and Sdumo Entertainment,” he adds.
The album is received well and is been played on local and national radio stations.
Mogale wa Bagale has performed at several events such as Andy’s Thatch Pub in Lebowakgomo for promotional purposes, as well as at the annual Lepelle Nkumpi Community Against Women Abuse campaign, Pitch Black Afro and King Solomon event in Jane Furse and Blackmoon in Zebediela.
He has shared the stage with Revolution, DJ Abrino, Lady Tone, Lady T, King Khiroro, Mkwaito and Creeper to name few.
He says in two years, he want to see himself as one of the most successful hip hop artists in the music industry. The talented man also wishes to instill moral values in the minds of the youth of today through sensible and educative music.
