R1m hijacking case postponed

A 23-year-old man appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning on a charge of hijacking

MOKOPANE – Ali Hassan (23) manager of a warehouse in Pretorius Street appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning on a charge of hijacking, after a truck filled with products to the value of a million rand was hijacked on Sunday night.

According to Irene Masingi, spokesperson for the Mokopane police station,”the driver of the truck alleged that he was on his way to Polokwane when he was pulled over by three unknown suspects who threatened him with a gun and a bomb.

“The suspects forced the driver out of the truck and into their private vehicle where they dropped him off at deserted bushes near Mid-way bricks.”

On Monday morning the tracking company approached reaction-officers from Special Operations Solutions (SOS) and requested assistance in finding the truck that was stolen on Sunday night.

According to Martin van Eck, reaction-officer manager (SOS) the truck was found parked in front of a warehouse in Pretorius Street.

“The manager of the warehouse was contacted and on investigation of the warehouse by members of the police and SOS they found 72 pallets filled with a variety of products.”

The case was handed over to the Mokopane police,” Van Eck reported.

“Hassan, manager of the warehouse, was arrested on Monday morning and appeared before court on Tuesday morning. The case was postponed for further investigations to 29 September and Hassan remains in custody. The three suspects involved in the hijacking are still on the loose and the owner of the warehouse has not yet been allocated. A thorough investigation is being led,” Masingi told Bosveld.
