Court sentences man to 6 life terms and 110 years
A man (42) was sentenced to six life terms in the Mahwelereng regional court with an additional 110 years (not to run concurrently) for murder and rape
LIMPOPO – A 42-year-old man was sentenced to six life terms in the Mahwelereng regional court on Monday (yesterday) with an additional 110 years (not to run concurrently) for murder and rape.
Johannes Ledwaba terrorised villages in the Mapela area outside Mahwelereng between 2002 and 2011, said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto.
According to Otto, Lebwaba used to greet and chat to the female victims before dragging them into the bushes and raping them.
“Fourteen women were raped this way. He also killed three victims after throttling them. The deceased were 25, 20 and 13 at the time,” said Otto.
“Two of the women were robbed of their cell phones at knife-point.”
Ledwaba was convicted on 14 cases of rape, three of murder and two of robbery.
The cases were successfully investigated by Lt Monene of FCS Mahwelereng, assisted by the expertise of an experienced team from the provincial head office.
The provincial police commissioner, Lt Genl Fannie Masemola congratulated the team with this success and praised them for never giving up the hunt for the suspect.
He said would be rapists out there should take note that the police would make use of all resources available to them to track down those who take away the rights of women and children to live a life without fear.
