One of the four suspects who escaped from the Marble Hall police holding cells on Friday morning was re-arrested on Saturday evening in Groblersdal

LIMPOPO – One of the four suspects who escaped from the Marble Hall police holding cells  on Friday morning was re-arrested on Saturday evening in Groblersdal.

He is expected to appear before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court soon on a additional charge of escape from lawful custody.

Police said the escapees, Advice Nkomo initially arrested for shoplifting, Elvis Khahlanohlate for rape, Charles Sihlangu for house-breaking and Alex Melodi for attempted murder and housebreaking, escaped from the cells just after 06:00.

Colonel Ronel Otto, Limpopo police spokesperson, said: “we are still investigating to find out the circumstances around the escape.”

Otto added that if it was established that there were any discrepancies or negligence on the part of police members, harsh disciplinary steps would be taken against those responsible.

The police’s air-wing search and rescue division flew over the neighbouring farms in search of the escapees around 22:00 on Friday.

Wildlife and Protection Services guards joined in the search around the farms.

Police appealed to the community with information that could lead to the arrest of the escapees to contact Marble Hall police on (013) 261 8600 or the nearest police station.

They also warned the public not to approach the suspects as they could be dangerous. The other three escapees are still at large.
