13 UL students arrested for public violence

Students at the Turfloop campus at the University of Limpopo went on a rampage on Monday evening

LIMPOPO – Students at the Turfloop campus at the University of Limpopo (UL) went on a rampage on Monday evening. According to information, the students demand that all outstanding debts and accounts are cleared.

“Tyres were set alight, shops were allegedly broken into and looted and a security vehicle was set alight,” said provincial police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto on Tuesday morning.

Thirteen students were arrested for public violence and possession of suspected stolen properties. They will appear before court at a later stage,  added Otto.

There were no reports of injuries, but public order police are maintaining their presence to patrol and monitor.
