POLOKWANE – Over the past week, the police in Polokwane have been working overtime to clamp down on crime in the city.
At least two special intelligence operations were held in this time, and significant arrests were made.
One of the arrests was made on Wednesday, 21 October when the police followed up on leads and found a 37-year-old man in possession of drugs including Cat and rocks to the value of R18 000. The man was arrested and appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on charges of being in possession of drugs.
In a second operation, the police followed leads and confiscated 11 computers and arrested a 28-year-old man for fraud. The man was arrested after crime intelligence reported the man was using the computers to create fake documentation for illegal immigrants, copy identity documents and create false certificates.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, said according to the information given to the police, the man was also assisting foreign nationals with driving permits that were then used illegally.
“We have established that the community of Polokwane has overwhelming confidence in the police in the city.
“We are receiving more than enough information from the public to assist in the promise we made to clean the city of some rogue elements in order to create a stable and secure city that the residents can be proud of,” Phala said.
