He needs your help to live a better life

The life of Bogoshi Mahubane in Ngwalemong village in the Sekhukhune District has not been easy since he lost his leg back in the 1980s

LIMPOPO – The life of Bogoshi Mahubane in Ngwalemong village in the Sekhukhune District has not been easy since he lost his leg back in the 1980s.

Mahubane was shot in the leg by the former security forces during the country’s uprisings and his leg had to be amputated. The 52-year-old, who lives in a one-roomed shack without a foundation or proper furniture, said he barely survives as he is forced to use his pension to pay other people to run his errands for him. “I am no longer able to do things on my own. I have to pay people to do errands like fetch me water, for example, as we do not have access to running water. For years I have hoped to get an artificial leg, but I can’t afford it, it is too expensive.

“An artificial leg will help me become independent again. I will be able to earn a living and supplement my pension.”

December Mokomane, a community leader, said Mahubane has been struggling under inhumane conditions for many years.

Mokomane added that they have made several attempts to get help for him without success.

“The man needs help. The conditions which he is subjected to are not those a human being should be under. We have tried finding him an artificial leg, but our attempts bore no fruits. We wish he could get help. He is a smart man and we know that if he can get help with this, his life will improve. We are also trying to find out why he still has no RDP house. His shack has leaks and he struggles a lot when it rains since he cannot move around easily. Added to this, he also does not have electricity or running water,” said Mokomane.
