Man stoned to death after attempted rape

A case of murder has been opened after the body of an alleged rapist was found in the streets of Machakaneng Village near Atok on Tuesday.

LIMPOPO – Police in Apel have opened a case of murder after the body of an alleged rapist was found in the streets of Machakaneng Village near Atok on Tuesday.

According to information, people in the community found Daniel Mabotha’s body after the community allegedly stoned him to death, said police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba.

“Mabotha was allegedly stoned to death by an angry mob after he allegedly kicked down a door and attempted to rape a 35-year-old woman.”

No arrest has been made,  but investigations continue, concludes Ledwaba.

The Provincial Police Commissioner  Lt Genl Fannie Masemola condemned the community for taking the law into their own hands. He further encouraged communities to rather take the criminals to court than committing crime by taking law into their own hands.
