Police warn residents to be vigilant after house robbery

A 40-year-old man and his wife were the second target of a house robbery in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in less than a week.

MOKOPANE – Surti Harun (40) and his wife were the second target of a house robbery in Akasia in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in less than a week.

According to Const Irene Masingi, spokesperson from the Mokopane police, “four suspects gained access to the house in Kiepersol Street through a broken window. Three of the suspects were armed with fire-arms and threatened the victims. They covered Harun and his wife’s heads with a blanket. After ransacking the house they left with R4 000, three cellphones a laptop and jewellery, everything to the value of R76 500.”

“Luckily the victims were not hurt. No arrests have yet been made and an investigation is ongoing”, reported Masingi.

This is the second house to be robbed in a less than a week in Akasia as the house of Ibrahim Mahomedy, a well-known businessman, was targeted on 5 November and his three daughters and two domestic workers were threatened and tied up by three armed suspects.

The police are appealing to the community to be vigilant at all times and to refrain from keeping cash in their homes.
