Lodge management says escaped lion harmed no one
The management of the popular Mbidi Lodge and Animal Sanctuary along the N11 outside Groblersdal thwarted as untrue rumours that a three-year-old lion attacked a human being and an animal
LIMPOPO – The management of the popular Mbidi Lodge and Animal Sanctuary along the N11 outside Groblersdal thwarted as untrue rumours that a three-year-old lion, Zondor, which escaped from its cage last Friday, attacked a human being and an animal.
Johan du Preez, a contractor at the lodge, confirmed that one of their tamed big cats, Zondor, found its way out of its cage, but said it was not true that either a person or an animal was injured during the escape.
“It is true that one of the lions got out of its cage, but we put it back. He is now safe back in his cage. We also want to state that it is not true that the lion attacked anyone while it was out of its cage.
“Zondor came here while he was a cub, he is now three years old and he is tame, so he wouldn’t harm anyone.
“At this stage it is not clear how the lion managed to get out, but we are investigating the circumstances of the escape. We suspect someone might have tampered with the gate as they are always locked for safety reasons,” Du Preez explained.
However, an eyewitness who did not want to be named, told CV that the lion attacked someone and killed a donkey during its escape.
