Children attend a 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign organised by the Epharim Mogale Victim Support Centre in conjunction with Marble Hall police last Wednesday.
LIMPOPO – The arrest of a 29-year-old man who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in Keroom Village near Marble Hall coincided with an awareness campaign against women and child abuse.
The awareness campaign was held by the Marble Hall police in conjuction with the Ephraim Mogale Victim Support Centre and other stakeholders.
According to Marble Hall police spokesperson, Const Lethunya Mmuroa, a manhunt was launched after the reported rape incident, which took place in October.
“Following a tip-off from residents on the suspect’s whereabouts, we arrested him while the awareness campaign was still underway.
“We view the arrest of the suspect as paramount to warn other criminals against the abuse of women and children, and all other criminal activities.We further appeal to residents to work with us and report crimes,” Mmuroa added.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Moutse Magistrate’s Court shortly.
