Vuwani protesters appear in court

Members of the Pro-Makhado group recently marched in solidarity with 11 of their members, who are currently out on bail after they were arrested for public violence

LIMPOPO – Members of the Pro-Makhado group recently marched in solidarity with 11 of their members, who are currently out on bail after they were arrested for public violence during the demarcation riots in August.

The group also demanded that all cases, including the recent bombing of a police Nyala vehicle and public violence against the group be withdrawn.

Protesters maintain they do not want to be demarcated under the newly proposed municipality, which includes Malamulele and some villages that currently fall under the Makhado area.

Spokesperson for the Vuwani police, WO Elijah Malatjie, commended the group for the discipline shown during the march. The case of the 11 people currently out on bail was postponed to 27 January.

Provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Fanie Masemola, commented that withdrawing the case will have to be deliberated on first as the damage to the burnt vehicle is estimated at approximately R5 million.
