UPDATE: Aunt acquitted, mother angry over injustice

The angry mother of Katlego Khosa (2), who was horrifically injured while in the care of an aunt, wants to meet with the head of the Child Protection Unit in the province after the court acquitted the accused.

LIMPOPO – The angry blind mother of Katlego Khosa (2), who was horrifically injured while in the care of an aunt, wants to meet with the head of the Child Protection Unit in the province after the Waterval Magistrate’s Court acquitted the accused without, according to her, any valid reason.

Veronica Khosa of Mufeba village near Elim told CV on Tuesday the accused, Ivy Mulaudzi from Maila village near Louis Trichardt, never told the court what happened to her daughter’s head and foot.

“My baby was brutally injured while in Mulaudzi’s care and I’m sure there was a plot to ritually kill her. My baby was unable to speak for three months due to her head injury. I believe Mulaudzi and her friends were taking advantage of my blindness and requested to care for my baby with the motive to kill her. I only found out about my baby’s injuries when a caregiver approached me out of the blue and told me about them. Mulaudzi, who was taking care of the baby, never told me the truth about what had happened to Katlego,” she said.

“The case started dragging in February when the accused was granted R1 500 bail by the Tshitale Magistrate’s Court.

“The case was moved to the Waterval Magistrate’s Court and in June it was again postponed due to the accused’s attorney being absent.

“On 3 August the case was postponed again for the same reason.

“Last month, they told me the docket was lost and they promised to phone me. Now they have told me they are acquitting her, yet they have given no valid reasons for this,” said the angry Khosa.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Ronel Otto, said Khosa is welcome to meet with the Child Protection Unit.
