MOKOPANE – A suspect aged 35 years was arrested on Wednesday on a charge of being in possession of suspected stolen property after Eskom cables were identified and seized at a local panelbeater in Mokopane.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Ronél Otto, the local police and K9 dog unit, along with Eskom, investigated the matter after receiving information.
The suspect will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).
According to a source who wishes to stay anonymous, the panelbeater had nothing to do with the suspected stolen property. They recently towed in a vehicle after it was in an accident and the owner of the vehicle asked them to take the cables with. The source said they had no idea it was stolen property and they were only doing their job.
He further said they were in communication with Eskom with regard to the cables. “Yes, the cables were found on our site, but that is where our involvement stops. We did not break the law and were only doing our job.”
