POLOKWANE – The New Year’s celebration ended in tragedy for a 20-year-old woman and her boyfriend (22) when she was raped and her boyfriend attacked on Sunday.
The woman and her boyfriend were taking a walk in Ladanna after buying some refreshment at a filling station. They walked into the veld nearby to have some intimate time together. The woman was unclothed when two men arrived, beat her boyfriend up and raped her.
Westenburg police spokesperson, Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, confirmed the incident and said the couple contacted the police afterwards.
“The woman is being treated at the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital and is receiving counselling after the attack. The man suffered minor injuries and is also receiving counselling,” Mashiane said. A case of rape is being investigated and he requested anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
“We guarantee all information will be dealt with anonymously and the identity of the informants will be protected,” he stressed.
