MOKOPANE – Yet another family from Akasia was the target of an armed robbery on Saturday night at 19:30 in Karee Street.
This is the fifth armed robbery since October in Mokopane and the third robbery that has taken place in Akasia that Bosveld has reported about.
A 30-year-old resident (who would like to remain anonymous) told Bosveld he and his family were in their car outside their friends house when four armed suspects approached them and two of the suspects pointed their firearms at them.
He said the suspects were wearing blue jackets and the one suspect wore a reflector vest.
Two of the suspects were armed with firearms, one had a taser and the fourth suspect had a knife.
“I felt terrified. They were not only threatening my life, but the lives of my family. Our youngest is only nine months old.
“I immediately adhered to their demands and handed them R1 500.
“They further demanded us to get out of the car, and in that moment my friend (35), who we were intending to visit, came out of his house.
“The one suspect pointed the gun at him and also demanded cash from him, he gave them R500.”
According to the victim, the suspects were driving a white sedan.
“Two of the suspects fled in our vehicle, a blue Toyota Tazz, and the rest of the suspects fled in the sedan.
“Shots were fired by the suspects as they sped off, fortunately no one was hurt.”
After the suspects fled, Suricat Armed Response was contacted and within minutes Suricat, the local police and the Valke neighbourhood watch were on the scene.
“I appeal to the community to be vigilant at all times these suspects strike when you least expect it.
“To our knowledge it is alleged these suspects are involved in numerous other robberies in Mokopane,” the targeted resident said.
He further told Bosveld, on Tuesday morning, that the police recovered his vehicle on Monday morning.
Sgt Irene Masingi, spokesperson for the Mokopane police station, said: “No arrests have yet been made and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
“We appeal to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects to please contact your nearest police station.”
