MH’s top matriculant off to Wits

POLOKWANE – For Sherwynne Steyn, bragging about his achievements is never something he would willingly do.
So when he came out top as Mitchell House’s number one student, accepting the accolade, he says, made him a bit nervous. “I guess it’s best to try and accept the accolade with as much grace as possible.”
Sherwynne received the highest number of distinctions at Mitchell House, receiving over 80% for accounting, Afrikaans, business economics and mathematics. His hard work throughout the year was thanks to the right attitude, Sherwynne says. “An important aspect of me being able to achieve what I have is that I have amazing friends who supported me. By returning the favour, it brings about an overall stress-free vibe that is beneficial to any person.”
What’s next for Sherwynne? He will attend the University of the Witwatersrand this year and do a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences course. He says he hopes to prove to himself that he can keep up the high standard and quality of work that he is already used to.
For the 2016 class of matric learners at Mitchell House, Sherwynne does not just want to say learners should work hard and stay dedicated, as that is what is expected.
“Learners should remember that stress is the only real barrier to achieving excellent results. “Keep your friends close and support them as well as they support you.
“Keep active and take your mind off the work once in a while, do things like participate in sport or have days where you go out with friends. This will reduce stress and give you the energy to really get stuck into your work when its needed,” is this achiever’s advice.
