SLC claims 2nd spot in adventure challenge in Zambia
Pepps Polokwane College learner, Anna Lennox emerged as the school's top performer in the 2015 Gr 12 final exam with seven distinctions.
POLOKWANE – The Ubuntu Adventure Racing team from Stanford Lake College (SLC) left its mark in Zambia after claiming the second position during the Adventure Challenge for Schools that took place from 4 to 8 December.
SLC was represented by two teams being Ubuntu and Tshanduko.
Both teams were made up of four athletes each.
The challenge was attended by nine teams from three countries, being South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Adventure racing is a multi-disciplined, non-motorised sport where mixed gender teams of four compete. Last year’s event was held at Mulungushi dam in Zambia, 200 km North East of Lusaka.
Two SLC teams, four teachers and several parents left on 30 November, making their way through Botswana and Zimbabwe to finally set up camp four days later on the banks of the Mulungushi Dam in Zambia.
After four days of racing, various activities and a lot of blood, sweat and tears, Zimbabwe’s Falcon College senior team (Bushtic Gladiators) was announced as the overall winner, with the SLC senior team (Ubuntu) in second place by 21 minutes.
The SLC Junior team (Tshanduko) came home in third place after finishing the race 25 minutes behind their senior team.
SLC thanked all the sponsors who made their trip a success: Trophy Toyota, Trappers Trading in Mall of the North, PPS in Tzaneen, Falconwood Water and Adventure Zone in Victoria Falls, as well as all the teachers and the parents who came along for the adventure.

• Team Tshanduko – Bryce Reed (C), Reece Bain, Matthew Wilkinson, Casper Venter.
