LIMPOPO – Shobe addressed Kopano High School learners during the handing over of school uniforms to 20 needy learners in Lebowakgomo, Unit S last Friday.
He said for learners to concentrate and produce good results at school, they must firstly take pride in their appearance.
“The school has a high number of learners who come from poor backgrounds and live in RDP homes; their parents cannot afford to buy them uniforms. We hope the little we do for them will help to change their lives.
“The ANCYL will adopt several schools in the province through our back-to-school campaign. We hope being close to our children will motivate and inspire them to do well in their school assignments,” Shobe said.
“As education is a societal issue, we call on our communities to join us to assist our schools because it is also our responsibility to do what we can to ensure the schools produce good results every year.
“Working together will assist to restore the dignity of learners and the communities as a whole,” Shobe continued.
He said the fact that the 2015 matric results were worse than those of the previous year should not be taken lightly.
“Extra lessons and engaging unemployed teachers to our schools can play a crucial role towards improving this.”
A Gr 10 learner, Mologadi Seabe, said the ANCYL has played a crucial part in her life by giving her a proper school uniform.
“I am so happy to have a new uniform. It was difficult for me without one as I looked different from the other learners. This has really changed my life because my parents couldn’t afford to buy me a uniform and it has given me a renewed determination to focus fully on my studies,” she said.
School governing body chairperson, Zacharia Thobejane, said when the lives of learners were touched positively, their results also improved.
Kopano High School principal, Lato Monama expressed his delight and hope that learners’ lives would improve now that they had school uniforms. “We value the partnership between school, community, and business people.”
Monama further said one of the school’s 2015 Gr 12 learners passed with six distinctions and was assisted to further her studies at Medunsa University.
