State-of-the-art library donated to needy kids
About 150 poor and vulnerable children of Litshani Vhana Vha-De Foundation will no longer have to linger around without a better place to get and read books, thanks to the sports betting company, Hollywood Bets for donating the Wendy-house library handed over on Friday
LIMPOPO – Litshani Vhana Vha-De based in Muledane village near Thohoyandou, is an afternoon drop-in centre and outreach programme which helps to improve the education of poor and vulnerable children so they may realise their dreams. The managing director of the foundation, Bridgette Mamugudubi, said the R70 000 state of the art library will house books, a room with chairs and tables, and archives which the children can use to study and further their ambitions.
“We are very thankful because our children wanted to read more, but we weren’t possible to help them in this regard until a good Samaritan helped us to make this dream a reality.
Hollywood Bets decided to invest in the education of the children as children are the leaders of tomorrow. It is the first of its kind in our community and we hope it will help to inspire the children to take education seriously,” said Mamugudubi.
According to Mamugudubi, although they are thankful for the donation of the library, the children still need a computer centre equipped with a wi-fi connection so they will be able to use the internet to help with research.
The marketing manager for Hollywood Bets, Yvonne Hleiisi, said the company decided to help charity organisations like Litshani Vhana Vha-De as part of their social responsibility and giving back to the community.
“We also donate soccer kits to rural based teams as we understand a kit is the most crucial item for rural soccer teams. We want to take young people off of the streets so they can become good future leaders,” said Hleiisi.
Senior librarian at the Thohoyandou Public Library, Patrick Bopape, urged the youth to come and make use of the library to promote their education.
“We are ready to train some volunteers from around Muledane who want to work at the library rendering library services such as shelving books. We greatly appreciate companies like Hollywood Bets who invests in the future of our children’s education,” said Bopape.
