Here’s a sweet way to beat the midweek blues
With its history going as far back as 1764, the chocolate cake is one of the most loved cakes in the world

POLOKWANE – Have the midweek blues gotten you down? Are you in need of a little pick-me-up? Well, Review might just have what you need to cheer you up.
With its history going as far back as 1764, the chocolate cake is one of the most loved cakes in the world. The cake was discovered by Dr James Baker when he ground cocoa beans between two massive circular millstones.
There have since been many variations of this sweet delight such as the chocolate meringue, devil’s food, ganache, chocolate cream cake, chocolate mousse cake and the ever popular black forest cake.
Review went in search of the best chocolate cakes in the city, and this is what we found:
Emason Dube, Ambiance Restaurant manager, says their chocolate cake is sponge and made from fresh ingredients.
“Our cake is delicious because we serve it fresh. We use real chocolate with caramel layers. It is a chocolate ganache and we serve it with ice cream or cream,” he says.
The Dish Restaurant
The Dish manager, Carol Seakamela, says they have their own chocolate cake recipes.
“The texture and taste is different from all the other cakes, once you have a piece, you will definitely come back for more.”
Michelle van Rooyen of Caffé Rossini, says they serve the soft, moist and delicious chocolate mousse cake, which is made with mouse sponge and velvet fillings.
The manager, Ruan van Greunen, says their mouth-watering cake, the chocolate smores cake, is the best.
“We combine marshmallows with chocolates, which makes it rich in chocolate, and very sweet.”
Lawrence Papol of Cofi says their chocolate cake is made of whopping great gateaux.
