"My heart is really sore." These are the broken words of Fridah Tema, a mother whose eight-year-old son drowned on Tuesday afternoon.

LIMPOPO – “My heart is really sore.” These are the broken words of Fridah Tema, a mother whose eight-year-old son’s lifeless body was pulled from the Ngwaditje river on Tuesday afternoon.

Const Sello Leso, Police Spokesperson for Mahwelereng, said: “Raymond Tema drowned in the Ngwaditje River between Moshate village and Sekgakgapeng outside Mokopane at around 15:00 on Tuesday. The cause of this tragic incident is not yet clear and a thorough investigation is ongoing.”

Leso further said: “This is the third drowning since December and it is heartbreaking. The police appeal on a weekly basis to the community to not allow their children to go swimming without adult supervision. Parents should be aware of where their children are at all times and they should be informed about the danger that lies within this water due to the strong currents.”
