The golden voice behind Univen Community Drive
Rofhiwa "Golden Voice" Nekhumbe is not only a radio presenter at the University of Venda's (Univen) community radio station, Univen FM, he also has numerous other talents
LIMPOPO – Besides being a radio presenter, Golden Voice (22), who was born at Dzimauli Luheni Mapuloni in Mutale, is also a singer, voice over artist, and poet.
He is the co-host of the Univen Community Drive weekdays from 15:00 to 18:00.
This talented young man is currently busy with his bachelor of arts in youth development at Univen. “After I heard about the auditions at Univen FM I applied and went through to the top 10 out of 70 candidates. I joined the Univen FM team in 2015 as a presenter of the Univen Community Drive show,” said Nekhumbe.
It had always been his dream to be on radio. “I was inspired by Jimmy Netshilulu from Phalaphala FM at the age of 16. My journey was not easy, but I love radio which is why I always pushed myself to do my best. Musically I found inspiration from T-Man Gavin. Apart from being a presenter I am also a singer.
I have already released my debut album titled Vhubvo na Mvumbo, a traditional kwaito, as well as two hit singles Zwi naka zwi tshirali, and Vhukimvi. My journey to become a radio presenter has been a tough one. The responsibility of being one is immense as people look up to me so I have to be presentable and try my best to be a good role model.”
His advice to young people who consider pursuing a career in radio is to work hard. “You must also have a love for radio. Anything is possible, even if you are from a disadvantaged family. With God nothing is impossible.
If you want to achieve your dream you have to work hard and have effective time management, this will help you reach your destination,” he concludes.
