Teachers share their own experience as the ‘new kid’
With the new school year now in full swing most schools have welcomed new teachers
POLOKWANE – Review spoke to the teachers who recently joined Christian Achievers Academy.
Comfort Mushanyuki will teach mathematics to the senior phase at Christian Achievers Academy. He says teaching is something he has loved since he was young and mathematics is a subject very close to his heart.
“Even when I was a learner myself, I enjoyed sharing my ideas and I wanted to continue to do so as an adult.”
He says mathematics is a subject many children do not particularly like, and he will be taking on the responsibility of teaching the subject in a fun way which will help the children understand and enjoy the subject more. He looks forward to building on the four years he has been teaching in Polokwane.
Miriam Mpande says she wants to impart the quality education she has received to the learners and feels teaching is her calling. She will teach Gr 2 learners and says that working with young children is her passion. Her advice to learners who want to become teachers is to know how to work with children.
“All children have different personalities and it is important to remember some learn faster than others and to practise patience,” she says.
She is originally from Zimbabwe and says her eight years experience has taught her to make teaching as fun for the learners as it is for her.
Samantha Palic is from Pretoria and is of the opinion that she has been sent to Polokwane by God.
She will be teaching the Gr 7 learners. “I try to relate to the learners and build confidence in them. When someone wants to become a teacher, the most important thing to realise is that they must love what they do,” she says.
